Amana furnace error codes
Use this table for the two-character display on Amana AMVC96 and ACVC96 furnaces. Match the code exactly; its detail page explains the fault and what you can check before calling for service.

Reading the Amana display
These furnaces show letters and numbers rather than counted flashes: E codes cover ignition, pressure, limit, and wiring faults, b codes cover the blower motor, and d codes cover memory card data. ON is a normal display. Write the code down exactly, since similar-looking codes can point to very different problems.
What this Amana page covers
This page covers only the AMVC96 and ACVC96 two-stage variable-speed display codes. These models share a control platform with Goodman, and the definitions come from Goodman-platform source documents for that shared control. Goodman single-LED flash codes and GMEC96 or GMVM97 codes are not covered here and should not be applied to these models.

Amana display code quick reference
| Code or flash pattern | Meaning | Model family | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| E0display E0 | Ignition Lockout (E0) Three failed ignition cycles — the control can't establish measurable combustion and locks out. Same reset as flash models: thermostat OFF 5–20 s, or kill power ≥5 s. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| E1display E1 | Low-Stage Pressure Switch Stuck Closed (E1) The low-stage pressure switch reads closed while the inducer is off. The control waits until the fault clears. Cause per manual: faulty switch or shorted wiring. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| E2display E2 | Low-Stage Pressure Switch Stuck Open (E2) The low-stage pressure switch doesn't close within 5 minutes of the inducer starting → 1-hour lockout, then auto-retry. Official causes: disconnected hose, faulty switch or wiring, blocked venting. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| E3display E3 | Open Primary, Auxiliary, or Rollout Limit (E3) One of three protective limits opened: primary (overheat), auxiliary, or flame rollout. Blowers run until it closes. Official causes: dirty filter or duct restriction, faulty limit, blower issue, blocked flue. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| E4display E4 | Flame Sensed With No Call for Heat (E4) Flame detected while the gas valve is de-energized. Blowers run continuously as protection. Same emergency profile as 5 flashes on flash-code models. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| E5display E5 | Open Fuse (E5) The control detects its onboard fuse open and inhibits all operation except displaying the code. Official probable cause: a short in the low-voltage wiring. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| E6display E6 | Low Flame Sense Signal (E6) Furnace runs, but the flame-sensor microamp signal fell below spec. Official: coated/oxidized sensor, wrong sensor position, or lazy flame from improper gas pressure. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| E7display E7 | Igniter Fault or No Ground (E7) Official: check for a broken or improperly connected igniter; check for proper ground and correct. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| E8display E8 | High-Stage Pressure Switch Stuck Closed (E8) The high-stage pressure switch is stuck closed when high stage is commanded — the furnace runs on LOW stage only regardless of thermostat demand. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| E9display E9 | High-Stage Pressure Switch Stuck Open (E9) High-stage switch won't close. Official checklist: blocked or pinched switch hose, blocked flue and/or intake pipe, blocked drain, weak induced-draft blower, or a failing switch. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| EAdisplay EA | Reversed Line Polarity (EA) 115V or 24V power leads are reversed — the furnace refuses to run. Same fix family as the continuous-flash code on flash models. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| d0display d0 | No Shared Data (d0) The control has no shared data set (it drives the variable-speed motor and airflow math). The furnace cannot function until a model-specific memory card loads the data. Display shows ON when accepted. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| d4display d4 | Invalid Memory Card Data (d4) The control rejected the shared data set — memory cards are model-specific and a card for a different model will be refused. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| b0display b0 | ECM Blower Motor Not Running (b0) The control can't detect the ECM blower running when it should be. Official causes: loose/disconnected wiring between motor and control, an open inductor (¾ HP and 1 HP motors), or a failed ECM motor. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| b1display b1 | ECM Motor Communications Lost (b1) The furnace control can't talk to the ECM blower — the furnace won't operate. Causes: loose harness, failed motor, or failed control. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| b2display b2 | Motor Horsepower Mismatch (b2) The connected motor's horsepower doesn't match the shared data set — the furnace refuses to run. Fix: correct motor, or correct data via the proper memory card. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| b3display b3 | ECM Motor in a Limiting Condition (b3) The ECM hit a power, speed, or temperature limit and reduced output — the furnace keeps running at reduced airflow. Officially caused by blocked/clogged filters, restrictive or undersized ductwork, blocked inlet, or high ambient heat. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| b4display b4 | Motor Trips (b4) The ECM motor sensed a loss of control or became overloaded and shut down. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
| ONdisplay ON | Display Reads ON — Normal Normal state. It also confirms the control accepted memory-card data after a board or card procedure. | AMVC96 · ACVC96 | View details |
